The Business Firm Model of Party Organisation: ANO 2011 and ANO
Smilnická, Julie ; Mlejnek, Josef (advisor) ; Perottino, Michel (referee)
The thesis describes two political parties that have been established in Central Europe, namely ANO 2011 in the Czech Republic, and ANO in Slovakia, whose main common feature is that they are run as private business companies. The aim of the thesis is to conduct an analysis of these two political parties which builds on the "business-firm model" party theory. This theoretical concept was established in 1999 and is based on observations of FORZA ITALIA, an Italian political party. Although the business firm model is an emerging political concept, it has been growing in popularity recently in almost all European countries. The thesis introduces this theoretical concept in detail and applies it to the two cases present in the Czech and Slovak party system. Finally, the thesis compares the two parties with each other and identifies their similarities and differences.
The emergence of new political parties in the Czech Republic
Šárovec, Daniel ; Perottino, Michel (advisor) ; Švec, Kamil (referee)
The aim of this diploma thesis is to discuss new political parties in the context of the Czech party system. Movement ANO 2011 and Dawn of Direct Democracy are the researched subjects which broke through elections to the Chamber of Deputies in the Czech Republic in 2013. This multiple case study proceeds from the basic and ambiguously gripped notion political party to diverse theoretical aspects of newness, trying to briefly define the Czech party system in the context of new political parties. It is done in terms of legislative rules for (not only new) political parties and also from a developmental view. Afterwards the empirical part works with particular characteristics of two chosen subjects - it gradually focuses on their emergence and development, programme, the leader and members, electoral campaign and their participation in elections. The task of the individual characteristics is to introduce both subjects accurately so their common and different traits are obvious. The gained findings are later assessed by the view of the chosen Sikk's theory of newness. There is examined if ANO and Dawn fall into some of the categories defined by this theory. The diploma thesis tries to shift the state of knowledge of new Czech political parties and refers to the positives and negatives of the chosen...
Movement ANO 2011 as a populist party?
Birinyi, Kristýna ; Šárovec, Daniel (advisor) ; Mlejnek, Josef (referee)
This bachelor's thesis focuses on the movement ANO (YES) 2011. The aim of this thesis is to find out how the movement works with the populist and anti-political- establishment elements and whether it can be viewed as a populist party. Theoretical bases will come out of the populist and anti-political-establishment party concepts. Basically, there is no generally accepted definition for any of these phenomena and they often intertwine. The study will, among other things, analyze the position of the movement in the czech party system since the movements beginnings in 2012 till the first half of 2019 and should thus contribute to the state of knowledge about populist tendencies of political parties on the example of the movement ANO 2011. Nevertheless the movement ANO (YES) 2011 has been analyzed in the past, the dynamics of political subjects and their ability to significantly change in a very short time should not be denied.
Movement ANO 2011 in Local Coalitions: Case Study of Large Cities
Hlušička, Filip ; Jüptner, Petr (advisor) ; Mlejnek, Josef (referee)
This diploma thesis presents Hnutí ANO 2011 as a Czech local governance participant. Having put emphasis on ANO's local organizations, the diploma thesis deals with particular situations in selected statutory cities during the 2014-2018 electoral cycle. As the electoral cycle went by, internal problems in local organizations emerged which ended up with party board abolishing some of the organizations. Coalitions in which ANO participated also were affected by those problems. In some cities, however, coalitions persisted and ANO local organizations had not suffer with internal problems, study of which also became a part of the research in the thesis. Having a strong leader from the business environment and limited membership, ANO 2011 is considered to be a business-firm party focused on marketing strategies and external specialists. As a typical business-firm party instance Forza Italia can be named, established in 1990s by Italian businessman and future prime minister Silvio Berlusconi. Business-firm party character of ANO may affect local governance where ANO's local organizations follow ANO party board's instructions and those organizations lack of autonomy to make their own political decisions.
